Snow Returns Monday Night

Summary:

Mild temperatures will continue through the short and extended period but we will see high-elevation snow showers return on Monday night and into Tuesday. Dry during the middle of the week before we see another chance for snow by Friday evening. Continuing to monitor the shift to a cooler and snowier pattern after Halloween.

Details:

Opening day at Arapahoe Basin on Friday was a blast! After four months of not sliding on snow, it was a very welcome relief to carve a few turns down high-noon.

Loveland Ski Area could also join the party this week so stay tuned for further updates...

The rest of Monday will feature very mild October temperatures and partly to mostly sunny skies. High clouds will continue to stream along the corridor but any precipitation will hold off until Monday night.

Come Monday night, our next system will begin to make its presence felt here in Colorado. Snow levels will likely stay above 10,000 feet on Monday night and into Tuesday but we could see a few flakes even lower under the heaviest showers. Even though this system is bringing in very healthy amounts of moisture, temperatures will just stay too warm to really give us respectable accumulations. In total, we are looking at 1-3 inches above 10,000 feet along the I-70 mountain corridor by late Tuesday morning. The mountain passes will turn wet but travel speeds should not be affected. There could be a few lingering showers for the rest of Tuesday but any accumulations will remain above 11,000 feet.

Warm and dry conditions will then settle back in on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will struggle to drop below freezing on Wednesday and Thursday night as we continue to experience very mild October temperatures.

Our next chance for precipitation will arrive by Friday evening but I don't have any further details to share at this time.

Extended Outlook:

Mild temperatures will continue to stick around through the final weekend of October. We are closely watching the pattern around Halloween and into the first week of November for a better chance for cooler air and stormier weather. As always, stay tuned for the latest information right here on OpenSnow.

Thanks for reading and have a great start to your week!
