Much Improved

Summary

Mild and mostly dry this week ahead of a shift back to cold and stormy weather next weekend. The 20th will be our first chance at healthy totals, followed by more during the final 10 days of January.

Short Term Forecast

I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy the fresh snow on Saturday! My day was spent cruising around Vail where they opened much of the terrain in the Back Bowls and in Blue Sky Basin.

Here's a photo that I took while dropping into Sun Down Bowl just after 8:30 am.

Sunday will now feature sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. All road surfaces are now mostly clear and dry, with only a few icy and snow-packed spots remaining over the higher passes.

There will then be a chance for light snow on Monday as a system pushes through northeastern Colorado. Areas along and east of the divide will receive light snow but any accumulations will light. The road surfaces will become wet and icy so as always, keep an eye on CDOT for the latest updates.

CDOT Alerts: http://opsw.co/cdotalerts

Sunny skies and mild conditions follow from Tuesday through Friday. Daytime highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s. We were watching for an outside chance for light snow on Wednesday but I believe that is all but gone.

Extended Forecast

Our full attention is now on next weekend as a cold and stormy pattern sets up across the West. Now that we're in the 7-day window, our first round of snow will arrive by next Friday night, Saturday, and potentially into next Sunday.

Below is a first look at the ensemble snow forecast for Loveland Ski Area.

We'll get into more details over the next few days but overall, it continues to look promising.

Looking further ahead, much colder temps and continued chances for snow will be the story as we close out the month of January. Great news, eh?!

Thanks for reading and have a great rest of your holiday weekend!
