Snowy Weekend with Difficult Travel Expected, Stay Home...

Update

Expecting dry weather through Friday with no travel issues.

Weekend Snow:

The next storm moves in Saturday morning around 8-9 AM with snow through the day on Saturday and snow showers into Saturday night. This system could bring several inches of snow to the Sierra. The next storm moves in for Sunday into Monday and could bring a couple more feet of snow. There may be no break in the snow between systems.

Snow levels may start near Blue Canyon to Truckee Saturday. The snow may be heavy at times which could cover the roads even with the higher sun angle, but we may also see wet roads during the day under lighter showers. Any chain controls Saturday will increase into Saturday night, and the same for Sunday into Sunday night. Sunday night snow levels crash and we could see chain controls over a longer stretch of road down to lower elevations

Be prepared for winter driving conditions and chain controls if you plan to travel through the Sierra over the weekend. Also, expect possible closures at times Sunday afternoon and night, especially for trucks. Gusty winds may also cause blowing snow and even lower visibility at times.

Next Week:

The 2nd storm may linger over CA into early next week snow showers lingering. That may only bring wet roads during the day but could bring slick roads at night. Stay tuned for updates as we get closer.
