Snow storms tapering off, sunshine moving in

Summary

The snow storms are tapering off in most parts of Idaho on Friday, and skies will clear in some locations for some bluebird skiing this weekend on top of fresh snow. Pomerelle, Magic Mountain and Pebble Creek are expected to get 3-7 inches of new snow today, and more snow tonight, before the storm system leaves southeast Idaho. Light snow will fall through the weekend at Brundage Mountain, Tamarack Resort, and Northern Idaho resorts before sunshine is expected to come on Sunday and Monday.

Short Term Forecast

Skiers and riders enjoyed 4-6 inches of new snow at Schweitzer Mountain on Thursday with good visibility. It's Community Day at Schweitzer on Friday with $10 lift tickets.

The big snow predicted on Thursday did not hit maximum amounts predicted, but most Idaho resorts got enough snow out of that system to open this weekend, if they weren't open already. That's good news!

A 20-40 percent chance of snow is forecast at Brundage Mountain, Tamarack Resort, and Northern Idaho resorts through the weekend. Temperatures are cooling off markedly this weekend statewide, with highs in the 20s, and lows in the teens.

Sunshine is forecast at Bogus Basin and Sun Valley by Saturday afternoon and Sunday for some bluebird skiing this weekend.

Extended Forecast

Sunny skies are forecast to prevail early next week with colder temperatures, and then the next storm system is coming to Idaho next Thursday.
