Storm track shifts north

Summary

Following the powder party over the past week, the final 10 days of January will feature a storm track that will favor the Northern Rockies and Northeast.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts over the past 5 days. As you can see, the DEEP forecast from last week verified for California and Utah.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Snowbird: 48 inches

Mammoth: 47 inches

Squaw Alpine: 44 inches

Alta: 32 inches

Jackson Hole: 29 inches

This Week

For the week ahead, we'll once again start with deep totals for California and Utah.

Squaw Valley reported 20 inches for Monday morning's report, while Mammoth came in with 8 inches. Alta, Snowbird, and Snowbasin in Utah will continue to see the snow stack up through Monday night.

Expect to see totals of 1-2 FEET on Tuesday morning in Little Cottonwood Canyon so do your best to target either Alta or Snowbird for the best turns to start this week.

The storm track will then begin to shift slightly north on Wednesday and target Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado on Wednesday and Thursday. Keep an eye on Big Sky and Jackson Hole for soft turns on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, along with the Aspen Snowmass destinations on Thursday morning.

This northern storm track will continue to be the story through the upcoming weekend. Along with additional accumulations throughout the northern resorts, Sugarbush in Vermont will join the fun with soft turns over the weekend of January 26th and 27th.

Extended Forecast

Next Week

Looking ahead to next week, yet another storm will likely slide down the spine of the Rockies and target Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and possibly New Mexico for the best totals. Further west, California will likely have to wait until early-February for their next round of snow.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, January 28th.
