Quieter Week

Summary

Taos will receive the goods to start and end of the week, while all other areas sit back and relax from a parade of storms over the past two weeks. Generally quiet weather continues into the final days of February before we turn to early March for the goods to return.

Short Term Forecast

As we do each week, let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts over the past 5 days.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Squaw Alpine: 95 inches (yes, you're reading that correctly)

Mammoth: 72 inches

Jackson Hole: 47 inches

Snowbird: 39 inches

Snowbasin: 38 inches

This Week

Following the firehose of moisture and parade of storms last week, the Collective resorts will turn much quieter this week and into the final week of February.

Taos Ski Valley will be in the spotlight on Monday and again on Friday as an active southern storm track takes aim for New Mexico. Look for healthy totals on Tuesday morning, with Saturday (2/23) also looking like another great time to catch the powder wave.

Elsewhere, the Aspen Snowmass destinations will receive moderate totals through Tuesday. Keep an eye on Wednesday morning (2/20) as a potentially good bet for riding soft conditions.

Further north and west, Mammoth and Squaw Alpine will receive a light refresh on Wednesday. Both locations have already broken their February snowfall records and each area's base depth is currently sitting above 200 inches!

Alta/Snowbird and Snowbasin in Utah will receive periods of light snowfall but as Utah Forecaster Evan Thayer put it, "the train is finally out of steam". The same goes for Big Sky, Sun Valley, and Jackson Hole.

Extended Forecast

Upcoming Weekend & Next Week

Looking ahead to the final days of February, we'll be keeping an eye on Sunday, February 24th and Monday, February 25th for moderate to heavy snow to return to the Northern Rockies. Keep an eye on Jackson Hole for chase potential.

We'll then need to turn the period around March 3rd and beyond for another active storm track to set up across the Western United States. This is fantasy land but this would line up with how we've seen the storm track reset for most of the season.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, February 25th.
