Almost in the Clear

Summary

A snow-making system is looking to impact northern New England this evening and through Wednesday, but will be the last one for awhile as high pressure moves in and temperatures take an upward trend.

Short Term Forecast

With the last few days giving us some clear skies and cold temperatures, we are due for another disturbance to come rolling into New England. As mentioned, the system that was initially thought to be a rainmaker will be making its way into the region with promise of snow.

With some freezing rain already approaching from the west, we can expect the system to begin filtering in by late this evening into Wednesday morning. The rain/snow line will lie around the border of northern Massachusetts, where there will likely be some mixed precipitation before turning to all rain for southern New England.

The storm will persist through Wednesday afternoon with some lingering snow showers into Wednesday evening. Another brief system of snow immediately following will provide Maine and parts of northern New Hampshire with a couple extra inches, but will move out quickly, making way for fair weather. The snow totals for this storm will likely range between 2-5 inches, meaning some beneficial added snow for many of the slopes in the White Mountains, northern Vermont and southern Maine.

Extended Forecast

A large region of high pressure extending along the eastern seaboard will dominate on Thursday and actually looks to persist through the remainder of the weekend. This will bring some clear to partly cloudy skies, and also some above-average temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 30’s and even low 40’s.

A much larger rain system is looking to affect New England late Monday into Tuesday of next week, but of course there is still a lot of variability in the forecasts. Check back in tomorrow for continuous updates.
