Today we have the weak disturbance that we've been talking about the last couple days moving thru the region.  It's really not much.  I woke up to some half rain / half snow hitting the windows of my house today in a brief heavy shower.  Webcams show snow has been falling off and on in the Wasatch since about 4am this morning.  Accumulations however, are generally an inch or two at best.  It already seems like showers are dwindling on the radar, so I doubt we'll see too much more in that way of accumulation.  At best, there will be just a little bit of added softness if you're making turns today.  

A break Thursday before the next system clips the region on Friday with another chance for some light showers in far northern Utah.  Again, nothing really of note.  However, there will be a trailing impulse on Saturday that will move thru Northern and Central Utah.  This could have a bit more kick to it and could put down a few inches of snow on Saturday in the Wasatch.   Here is the GFS total precip thru early Sunday morning: 

It's not much to look at, but a few inches here and there thru Saturday.  

The real show begins as we get close to Christmas.  A large trough will move toward the area.  Ahead of this trough, an initial wave will push through late Sunday.  This should bring some snow to the mountains, generally on the lighter side, on Sunday night.  Then on Monday (Christmas Eve), the main system pushes in.  Snow will be likely late Monday into Tuesday (Christmas Day).  Right now it looks like there will be a good chance that Christmas Day will be a powder day.  Also, a decent chance for a White Christmas down in the valleys.  

We've had remarkably good luck with snow on Christmas in recent years... and that just might continue.  The total snowfall when extended thru the 26th (Boxing Day) looks pretty good: 

After the Christmas storm clears out, it does look like there will be another storm later next week but both the GFS and Euro have this one tracking south into Arizona.  We could see decent snowfall, however, in the southern Utah mountains and we will keep an eye on this.  Overall, the current trend seems to be back to a drier pattern as we head towards the new year.

We are seeing stoke increase... It's been "Low" for quite some time but is now pushing up into "Medium" range and could hit high as we get closer to the storms.
