Final Weekend of the Season for Most

Summary

Spring conditions will continue to rule this week and most of next week. It will get even warmer over the weekend into early next week before a cool-down begins. There's always a chance we could see a final shower or 2 before the month closes, but by then the ski areas should all be closed.

Short Term Forecast

Good Morning Readers. I apologize I was not able to give you a post on Monday morning like I thought I might. I did mention I would be in the field and my field schedule gets quite hectic. We're up early in the morning and usually work long hours throughout the day, sometimes upwards of 12+ hours. So... my update to get up even earlier to get a post out is pretty minimal at best... to say the least.

Storm Recap

The storm feels like it underperformed compared to my expectations in the San Gabriel's. I believe Mtn. High reported 2 inches at best. My forecast was for 3 - 6 inches, so we came in just under. The Big Bear Mtns. I believe reported 1 inch, which was on track for the forecast. Ie... this was the last storm of the season for pretty much everyone.

Next 5 Days & Ski Resorts Closing

We've had beautiful Spring weather over the last 5 days and that will only continue. Check out the forecast for Mtn. High below.

Temps will be in the low 50's to start but rise to almost 60 degrees over the weekend into early next week. No sign of precip and light winds call for truly some Spring skiing days.

Not much else to say in terms of the weather here.

In terms of ski area closures, we're nearing the end of our season, or to put it more bluntly this is the final weekend for all but one resort, at least as far as I know. Bear Mtn. & Snow Valley closed last weekend. This weekend Mtn. High & Snow Summit closes, at least according to their websites.

Only Mt. Baldy has put out plans to stay open for another weekend and close after the 28th. We'll see if they can make it after the warmth this week and next.

Extended Forecast

In terms of the outlook for next week, it's really just more of the same beautiful Spring weather we've been seeing. Temps will start to cool during the middle of the week and we might even see 30's in the mtns. for a few days later next week into early next weekend.

By then only Mt. Baldy might be spinning chairs but in terms of recreation it might feel chilly and a little less Spring-like.

Precip wise youc an see below that the chances are quite slim according to both the GFS & European Ensembles.

Only a few model runs show any sort of chances at all and they are minimal at best, so I'm thinking we stay high and dry for a while.

I'll try and get one more final post out next week wrapping our season!

Till the next one... Mike out.

P.S.

I've been enjoying some of the finer aspects of working in Kansas. Check out my capture from the storms that rolled through last night!

We've had several days of incredible storms! As a meteorologist and storm fanatic this is definitely a dream come true for me. I've never been out where the storms are powerful like this so it's a sight to see!
