Tahoe Daily Snow
By Bryan Allegretto, Forecaster Posted 6 years ago March 28, 2018
Mild Week, Unsettled and Cooler Next Week...
Summary
Sunny with highs in the 50's on the mountains and near 60 at lake level through next Tuesday. An active storm track into the Pacific NW by next Wednesday could bring clouds and some cooler air. The 6th - 10th of April we will watch to see if the storm track shifts far enough South to bring us some storms.
Short Term Forecast
High pressure is building in along the West Coast which will bring dry weather for the next 7 days and mild temperatures.
We are in a freeze-thaw cycle on the mountains now, so expect firm conditions in the mornings and soft snow in the afternoons. We may be able to start growing some corn snow this week.
Extended Forecast
The ridge is still forecast to shift up near the Aleutian Islands next week. That should allow the jet stream to cut underneath and into the Pacific NW by Wednesday.
The latest model runs show a storm moving through the Pacific NW on Wednesday that could bring us some clouds, cooler air, and some wind up high.
Going into the weekend of the 6th there are some signs that the storm track could lower into CA. I'm watching the period of the 6th-10th as a time when we could possibly see a few weak/moderate storms move through. You can see the lower heights forecast down into CA.
The long-range ensemble runs are in decent agreement through the next two weeks. The show the trough possibly staying in the Northeast Pacific through the week of the 9th, but the storm track may shift back to just to our North again.
Here is a look at the GFS 10 day total precipitation forecast.
This is a typical Spring pattern with the jet stream weakening and shifting North. We mostly see storms to our North with weaker storms moving into CA from time to time in April. Sometimes we get lucky and get a big dump of snow in April though, so we will keep watching.
Since we are heading into April and a 10 day dry spell, I will likely switch to every other day posts for a few days until we get some storms into the 7-day window.
Stay tuned...BA
