Heat Wave...

Update

High pressure is anchored over the area, and should be through next week.  We have had temperatures in the 90's in Reno and 80's in the Tahoe area this week.  Some days have come close to 100 in Reno.

Next week the temperatures could be even hotter.  We may easily break 100 in Reno and break 90 up around Lake Tahoe.  There is some monsoon moisture causing thunderstorms to our South that will try to creep North, but not sure it will make it this far North.  The best chance seems to be Friday.  The biggest fear would be lightning only popping up over the mountains the next several days.  That could lead to fires with plenty of dry fuel now that we are into the heart of the hot dry Summer weather.

I did get the June numbers from the Snow Lab.  It was a very dry month with only 1mm of precip recorded.

We are completing the final tasks with packing for the RV trip and getting the house ready to leave.  We are still on track to leave on Sunday.  We will make a stop in Redding first to visit the in-laws, but then North to Crater Lake National Park by Wednesday and then the real journey begins.

Stay tuned for updates on the developing El Nino and words from the trail as we journey around the country.

We have also been spending a lot of time developing the OpenSummit iPhone app.  If you have it already run the update.  If not download it.  Go to the Explore tab.  That is where we are now in the process of adding 1,000 mountains around the country for Summer hiking and biking weather.  If you don't see your mountain on their yet please enter it into the request box.  It may or may not already be on our list of mountains we are adding this month.

Stay tuned...BA
