One Weekend Wonder...
Summary
- A weak system moving through Tuesday afternoon/evening could bring a dusting to an inch of snow. Highs in the 20's on the upper mountains and 30's at lake level. Ridgetop winds gusting to 45+ mph. - We will see a drier pattern set up starting Wednesday lasting through the weekend. We stay cold with highs in the 30's on the mountains & 40's at lake level throughFriday. Then we could warm into the 40's on the mountains over the weekend, and 50's at lake level. - We could see a weak system push into CA by Tuesday the 19th, possibly followed by some stronger storms through the last week of March.
Short Term Forecast
This will be a quick post today as we don't have much to talk about until next week, and the forecast hasn't changed since yesterday.
Weak Tuesday System:
We have a weak front approaching from the NW this morning.
That will push a weakening band of precipitation through this afternoon/evening.
Most forecast models have a high end of a tenth of an inch of total precipitation, the NAM is the wettest with up to 2 tenths north of the lake.
That would bring us a dusting to an inch around most of the lake, with a high end of 2 inches north of the lake on the mountains. Ridgetop winds gusting to 45+ mph. Highs in the 30's today, falling into the 20's on the upper mountains behind the front later this afternoon.
Dry Pattern:
High pressure builds in Wednesday and lasts through next Monday bringing us 6 days of dry weather.
We start cold on Wednesday with highs in the 20's on the upper mountains and 30's at lake level, with a brisk northeast wind gusting to 40+ mph on the mountain tops. Then lighter winds through the weekend and warming temps. Highs into the 30's on the upper mountains and 40's at lake level Thu-Fri, and 40's on the upper mountains to 50's at lake level Sat-Mon.
It's going to be a beautiful weekend, but it may be a one weekend wonder as the storms may return next week.
Extended Forecast
The long-range models still show the ridge shifting east starting next Tuesday the 19th, with the large trough off the coast nudging into the West Coast.
That pattern could last through the last week of March. The storms could start weak next week, but a strengthening jet stream off the coast pointed at CA could push in some stronger storms through the last week of March.
All of the long-range models show increasing precipitation chances through week 2.
