Nicer Weather Into the Weekend...

Summary

The sunny weather returns starting Thursday. Sunny and warming through the weekend and into early next week. Keeping an eye out for a few afternoon showers possible Tue-Wed afternoon. Then possibly more precipitation during the last week of April.

Short Term Forecast

The sun has returned this morning after 2 days of colder weather and snow showers. Back to spring skiing.

squaw

We had a cold day on Wednesday with some more scattered snow showers. This time most of the accumulating snow fell south of the lake. We only saw up to a coating of snow for most mountains around the lake. South of the lake Heavenly is reporting 1 inch, Bear Valley 4 inches, and Mammoth 2 inches in the past 24 hours.

Storm totals were not too shabby for a weak system late in the season. Totals of 3-12 inches. Squaw Valley is the first to hit 300 inches for the season.

snowfall

Now we return to a sunny and dry pattern through Monday. Highs in the 40s on the upper mountains and 50s at lake level through Saturday, and then warming into the 50s & 60s for Sunday & Monday. We could see some gusty ridgetop winds from the northeast on Saturday gusting 30-40+ mph.

Extended Forecast

We could see a few scattered rain & high elevation snow showers Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon as another weak system moves through adding some moisture to the atmosphere. Not expecting any accumulating snowfall this time but any showers could bring breezy winds and a quick drop in temperatures.

Then we may see drier weather again next Thursday into the weekend of the 34th.

Fantasy Range:

The long-range models continue to suggest a pattern shift during the last week of April. The latest deterministic runs keep the storms to our north, but the ensemble mean runs continue to show increased precipitation chances south into CA.

We will continue to keep an eye on that. I will be switching back to posting less frequently until we have a storm to talk about within the 7-day window.

Stay tuned...BA
