Snow Showers This Weekend...

We have had nice weather since it last snowed on the 9th.  Now another cold area of low pressure is approaching from the NW.  That will move in over the weekend bringing more unsettled weather with snow showers and much colder air.

Several waves may rotate in Friday through Monday.  The best chance for showers looks to be Friday into Saturday, with more scattered showers Sunday into Monday.  The latest model runs show enough cold air for snow levels to drop near lake level Friday into Saturday.

With highs near 70 on Wednesday the ground will be pretty warm and highs will be in the 40's Friday into Saturday.  So not expecting the snow to stick at lake level.  Above 7000 feet we could see some accumulations, especially Friday night when temperatures are colder.

The GFS and Canadian models keep the heaviest precip to our North with only light showers making it into the Tahoe area.  The European model tracks the lows further South with up to an inch of liquid near the crest.  We will have to keep watching the trend as we could see several inches accumulate on the mountains.

With Squaw Valley still open this weekend there is the chance to ski some fresh tracks Saturday.  And of course there is the back country...

So the wind cranks up Thursday and then much colder weather ahead this weekend with a chance of rain and snow showers through the weekend.  Winter won't let go quite yet.

Stay tuned....BA
