This week's powder will be in UT, CO, AZ, NM

Summary

The last hurrah of a very stormy pattern in the west will occur this week as a storm over the northwest and a system in the southwest coverage, creating powder days for the four-corner states during the middle of the week.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 3/11 – Tuesday 3/12

We’ll start the week with three areas of snow. In the northeast, cooler air on the backside of Sunday’s storm will extend snow showers and low-to-moderate snow amounts into Monday. In the northwest, a new storm will bring moderate amounts (3-8 inches) from later Monday into Tuesday. And in the southwest, a warmer storm should deliver 6-12+ inches to southern Utah, southern Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Forecast for Wednesday 3/13 – Thursday 3/14

The big story during the middle of the week will be a strong system that will bring deep powder to New Mexico and Colorado. This storm will form as the early-week storms over the northwest and southwest converge over and just east of the Rockies. Expect snow to increase on Wednesday with perhaps the deepest powder on Thursday morning in Colorado and New Mexico.

Forecast for Friday 3/15 – Sunday 3/17

Once the midweek storm moves away from Colorado and New Mexico, it looks like we’ll enter a less snowy pattern for most of the country on Friday through the weekend. The northeast could see a warm (rain) storm on Friday before cooler air and snow showers return for the weekend.

Extended Forecast

The Outlook for Monday 3/18 – Friday 3/22

The weather during the early part of next week will be different than what we’ve seen for many of the previous weeks as the western United States will be dry. The northeast could see a storm or two track up the coast, and toward the end of the week, we might see some snow return to the west.

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Thursday, March 14.
