The Past Five Days

As expected, we saw the deepest totals (1-3 feet) across the Northwest, including Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Northern and Central Rockies also saw healthy snowfall from Wyoming to northern Utah and throughout Colorado.

Forecast for Mon, Jan 27 – Tue, Jan 28

It sounds like a broken record or a re-run of the movie “Groundhog Day” when I say that the heaviest snow early this week will fall over the Northwest. These storms will make their way south and east through the Rockies, though snow totals will be lighter for these areas.

Forecast for Wed, Jan 29 – Fri, Jan 31

From the beginning of the week to the end of the week, the snow forecast map will shift slightly to the east but it won’t change the result very much. The most snow will continue to fall over Washington and British Columbia with lighter amounts over the Rockies.

Forecast for Sat, Feb 1 – Sun, Feb 2

This weekend will bring some changes to the weather pattern. First, the Northeast should get back into the powder game with either moderate amounts of snow from a fast-moving storm, or perhaps significant amounts of snow if a Nor’ Easter spins up along the coast. Second, the heavy snow over the Northwest might be the final wave of deepness as the weather pattern should shift to the east during the following week.

Outlook for Mon, Feb 3 – Fri, Feb 7

We’ll start this period with a strong storm over the Northwest. Then the storm track and coldest air should head to the east during the week, likely focusing snow over the Northern and Central Rockies, with a chance for snow in the Southern Rockies (Arizona and New Mexico) as well.
