Happy Thanksgiving!
Summary
High pressure takes control for the next 10 days or so at least. Hopefully we see better chances for more active weather arrive in December.
Short Term Forecast
We are cold this morning behind yesterday's system. Mountain temps typically in the teens and twenties today. Peter Sinks down to -13F overnight. These temps are good for snowmaking at least so hopefully resorts will continue to blow snow as long as they can. Ridge of high pressure is taking control and will be in control for at least 10 days per latest outlooks. Temperatures will be warming back above normal. November looks destined to go down as a very dry and warm month for Utah.
Extended Forecast
Still looking into "fantasy land" in the models for signs of change. The good news is that models, in general have a slow pattern change taking place over the first 10 days of December. The bad news is that it's probably not going to bring us big storms immediately. GFS operational has had a few runs showing a storm around December 5th, but this doesn't yet have much support in other models or even GEFS ensembles. Otherwise, we could be waiting toward closer to December 6-10th for any meaningful change. EPS still showing strong signature for western NA troughing around Dec 10:
As I've been saying for what seems like weeks now, all we can do is wait and hope that one of these potential pattern change makes it inside the 10-day window. Once it does, confidence will start to increase.
