Summary

A cold powder day today (Tuesday) with fresh snow that fell over the past 24 hours. A break now through Thursday. Snow returns on Friday with another storm likely Sunday into Monday.

Short Term Forecast

It was a productive storm. It is still snowing lightly this morning in several places but that should end. Totals have generally been in the 10-17" range in Northern Utah. 14-15" in Cottonwoods. 15" at PC. 10" at Deer Valley. 11" at Snowbasin. 17" at Brighton. Lesser amounts farther south with 6" at Sundance.

While this storm performed at or above my expectations for most of the area, it was slightly below what I hoped for in LCC. We didn't quite get the orographic/lake-enhancement this morning that I was hoping for which would have put the cherry on top. Still, I'm not complaining.

It is quite cold out today, so bundle up. We have a break in the action through Thursday. A low pressure system will dig down the west coast this weekend and will send a wave of energy into the Sierra and across the Great Basin to Utah on Friday. This looks somewhat modest at this point with only moderate precip amounts. A break Saturday, then another wave (potentially stronger) for Sunday into Monday. You can see both of these waves in the below GEFS plumes:

After today, That's another 2+" of liquid for the mean over the next week. Not huge, but good snow still looking likely for the upcoming week. Best powder days still look like today, Friday and Sunday with toss-ups for Saturday and Monday. Not bad to have options!

Extended Forecast

Not much agreement beyond the beginning of next week. In general, I think we will have a period of more benign weather as the synoptic pattern seems to give us some temporary ridging. We shall see...
