Where's Winter?

Update

I took trip down to southern Utah with the mountain bikes and camera equipment just to get away for a couple days.  I often do this in the late fall when the model outlooks are bleak.  Often I come back from my trip and after not checking forecast models for a couple days, only to find that a storm has developed in the guidance.  NOT THIS TIME!  If anything, models look even more bleak. A YUGE ridge is going to dominated the Western U.S. for at least the next 10 days:

This isn't going to allow storms into the area.  Later this week, a very weak system will drop down to our east down the Continental Divide.  Looks like any moisture will stay to our east but we could see a few clouds and cooler temps Thursday into the weekend.  Right now, I don't see any significant chances for snowfall thru the end of the month.  The first week of November there are some signs that the ridge could retrograde a bit and weaken and allow something into the area, but that is 10+ days away and confidence in that is very, very low.

No need to panic at this point. It's still October and last year our dry pattern continued thru the entire first half of November -- things turned out OK if you remember.  Patience for now, go out and enjoy the extended dry season activities.  MTB conditions are very good throughout the state.
