Monitoring the Change
Summary
Sunny skies and warm temps over the next few days as high pressure is in control. The ridge will break down during the upcoming week with storms beginning to affect the region.
Short Term Forecast
Sorry for the late post today... been feeling a bit under the weather. But now it's time for me to be on top of the weather... so here we go....
We've had a very productive week in Utah in the highest elevations where quite a bit of liquid came down in the form of dense wet snow. Far northern Utah continued to see snow into yesterday morning. About 6" of dense cream up at Beaver Mountain. Very smooth and fun to speed thru the trees off Harry's and Marge's:
I miss getting faceshots of cold smoke on every turn... but hopefully that will be coming...
For now, we have a few days of high pressure to get through. If you're a fan of sunny skies, clear air, and groomers, then the next couple days are for you!
Things start to change on Tuesday as the first system pushes in off the Pacific. As is often the case, the first storm is the sacrificial lamb and will weaken as it breaks down the ridge. Therefore, I wouldn't expect too much from this storm. It is worth noting that a few model runs this morning have showed the storm holding together a bit better than expected. Right now I think Tuesday night into Wednesday we could see a few inches of snow in the high elevations.
It looks like a stronger storm is on tap for later in the week, this one is timing for Friday. Still don't have full details on this but it should be at least a moderate system. It is also fairly cold so snow levels should be at valley floors for much of the storm. Hopefully that means Friday/Saturday powder...
Still seeing good accumulations likely over the next week...
Extended Forecast
It looks like we could have another chance for a storm to begin the week of January 22. Overall, we are still seeing the possibility of the storm door staying open through the 15-day long range forecast. Hopefully that remains the case and we get a good succession of snow storms.
I'll have more details tomorrow morning... Stay tuned!
