Dry For Now, Two Chances For Snow Next Week

Summary

Mostly sunny skies and dry weather will remain in place through Sunday. Our attention will turn to Monday, February 6 for our next chance for snow. Dry during the middle of next week ahead of another chance for light snow around February 9/10. A stormier pattern could return around February 13.

GoI70 Traffic Forecast

Thursday - Sunday

To start, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that A-Basin received a totally out-of-the-blue (literally) round of snow on Wednesday night and reported 2 inches on Thursday morning. I have no idea how this happened as there wasn't a single model that even showed this possibility. So it goes sometimes!

It's now crystal clear over Colorado on Thursday morning and that will remain the case through Sunday.

We could see high clouds stream overhead from time to time, along with an increase in cloud coverage on Friday night and again on Saturday night, but that should be it weather-wise for the next four days.

Temperatures will start in the single digits each morning before rising into the 20s and maybe even into the low 30s on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Enjoy the beautiful weather.

Travel Forecast

Dry road surfaces will remain in place from Thursday morning through Sunday night. Expect normal travel speeds outside of typical weekend traffic.

Icy and snow-packed road surfaces will then return on Monday, February 6 and will likely remain in place through next Tuesday morning, February 7. Plan for extra travel time from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

Mostly dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds will likely be encountered during the middle of next week ahead of a chance for more snowy road surfaces around Friday, February 9.

Extended Forecast

Next Week & Beyond

The extended period of dry weather will come to end on Monday as our next chance for snow slides through the Intermountain West. This storm doesn't look overly impressive right now and I'll go with an initial forecast of 3-6 inches through Monday night.

Looking further ahead, we should receive mostly dry weather on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week ahead of "something" around Thursday, February 9 and into Friday, February 10. This system looks very weak right now so I'm only expecting another round of very light snow.

Our full attention will then shift to the week of February 13 as all longer-range models continue to show stormy weather returning to much of the Western United States. This could set us up for multiple rounds of snow through the middle of February.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Saturday.
