Monday Snow Showers:

The first system drops through the region Monday. Snow showers are possible Monday afternoon and evening. Snow levels likely drop to 6000 ft. at the start which is below pass levels. Then below 4000 ft. by the end of Monday evening. 

The snow showers look to be pretty scattered and light. We could see a dusting up to an inch of snow over the passes. That could bring chain controls over the passes Monday evening, but maybe light enough that the snow doesn't stick much or some areas may see none at all. Be prepared for possible winter driving conditions.

Tuesday - Wednesday:

Tuesday and Wednesday look to be dry with no weather-related travel issues currently expected.

Thursday Storm:

A stronger storm is forecast to move in Thursday morning and possibly last into early Friday morning before clearing Friday. Snow could reach Donner Pass after midnight Wednesday night into early Thursday. Snow levels look to start below pass level around 5000-5500 ft. and fall below 2000 ft. Thursday night. This storm could bring 1-2+ feet of snow to the northern Sierra.

Be prepared for chain controls and slow driving starting Thursday morning and lasting through Friday morning before conditions improve. Chain controls could start around Blue Canyon to Truckee, and then lower quite a bit Thursday night, maybe down below Colfax all the way to the NV state line. Gusty winds could create white-out conditions at times.

Friday:

Friday we should see clearing and the roads improving through the day, but likely starting the day with slow travel and chain controls until the roads start melting off.

Saturday - Sunday Storm:

Saturday we could see snow from the next storm move in by the afternoon and continue into Sunday. Snow levels could start out back up between 5000-6000 ft. and then fall lower into Sunday. 

We will have to fine-tune the timing and snowfall amounts as we get closer. Be prepared for winter driving, slow travel, and chain controls if you plan to travel through the Sierra from Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Long-Range:

The storm track may shift north the week of the 5th with a drier pattern for northern CA. That may shift back to a more active pattern starting around the 10th.
