Two large and slow-moving low-pressure systems will impact the West over the next 7 days, bringing significant low-elevation rain and high-elevation snow to many areas, along with cooler than average temperatures. The Central & Northern Rockies are favored for the heaviest rain and snow totals. A gradual warming & drying trend is expected heading into late May.

Early May has been very warm across our area, but don't get used to it because we have at least 7 days of chilly temps ahead, along with frequent shots of valley rain and mountain snow. The first system will bring periods of showers Tue to Thu, with snow levels creeping toward the valley floor Wed AM. Additional rounds of rain & mtn snow are likely to follow with snow levels ranging from 7-10k ft.

With Big Sky and Lookout Pass closing over the past weekend, Montana’s 24/25 (lift-served) ski season has officially concluded. In this final post, I’ll give an overview of the season’s snowfall, deep highlights, and snowpack graphs from popular ski areas and resorts across the Treasure State.

The winter of 2024-2025 featured near to above average snowfall across the Sierra, Central/Northern Rockies, and much of the East. Snowpack is currently melting at a faster rate than usual across much of the West due to warmer and drier conditions so far in April. Looking ahead, a storm will bring high-elevation snow showers to the Sierra & the Rockies from late this week through early next week.

This will be my final chase powder post for the 24/25 season. It has been an epic season in many areas, including northern Vermont and many northern/Central Rockies, Sierra, and Alaska spots.
