A generally weak storm will bring light snow amounts to northern Utah mountains heading into this weekend. The main story will be the coldest air of the season so far. Then, a dry pattern re-establishes itself for next week. Next chances for storms are toward the end of January.

The coldest air of the season will be knocking on the Rockies by later Friday through Monday. Snow amounts stay light to moderate, with a few spots near Boulder or the Divide north of I-70 on watch. The extended offers some hope.

An arctic cold front will move from north to south into the Western U.S. on Friday and Saturday before spreading into the Eastern U.S. early next week, resulting in some of the coldest air of the season so far in many areas. Storms will continue to favor the East from late this week through early next week, while the Rockies will see a shot of snow Thursday-Saturday as the front arrives.
