The bitter cold will stick around through early next week but will offer up some powder turns for those willing to brave the cold temps in the lake effect snow belts. Many resorts have already altered their schedules through Tuesday - I'd call ahead/check socials before heading to the slopes.

A coastal storm will move into the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday with light to heavy snow possible (1-12+ inches). Model uncertainty regarding the development of a heavy snow band will influence snow totals. The heavy snow band is favored to affect the western/eastern Mid-Atlantic with 6-12+ inches. The higher terrain of WV and the Catskills are favored to see >10 inches. Very cold air moves in Monday.

The next storm is on our doorstep with cold air and decent snowfall totals for the Front Range. Utah is a wildcard in the Cottonwoods for lake enhancement in the Cottonwoods. The long-range has higher confidence of double digits for the PNW and Northern Rockies, with the Sierra on watch (January 27-20)

The big story this weekend will be arctic air overspreading much of the Lower 48. The large-scale pattern will continue to favor drier conditions across the West with only some light snow for the Rockies, while the East will be more active. Two storms will move across the East over the next 3 days, while the South could see snow next week. The Great Lakes will also see consistent snow showers.
