What a phenomenal storm cycle we have had over the past five to six days! Most of the central mountains have received 6+ inches of snow/water equivalent, with resorts in southern Idaho not far behind. Let's do a quick recap and then look ahead!

The current storm has proved to be a difficult one for the short and mid-term weather models to pinpoint the tracking and snowfall amounts. The pattern is a moist feed of sub-tropical moisture that is overriding cold air in place over parts of Montana. This feed has now shifted northward, with West Central and NW Montana in the cross-hairs. The storm then exits on Weds PM. Snow totals are below.

The messy warm storm continues in the central Rockies and Sierra through Friday. The parent, low off the coast of the PNW, continues to spin waves into the region, with cold air trapped in the PNW and northern Rockies and warm, moist flow aimed at the Sierra. A cold front advances into the Sierra and central Rockies Friday with chase-worthy snow.

February has come in like a lion this year with strong storms, heavy snow (and rain), and sharp temperature differences across the West and the East. An active pattern is expected to continue for the foreseeable future with frequent storms from coast to coast.
