The messy warm storm continues in the central Rockies and Sierra through Friday. The parent, low off the coast of the PNW, continues to spin waves into the region, with cold air trapped in the PNW and northern Rockies and warm, moist flow aimed at the Sierra. A cold front advances into the Sierra and central Rockies Friday with chase-worthy snow.

February has come in like a lion this year with strong storms, heavy snow (and rain), and sharp temperature differences across the West and the East. An active pattern is expected to continue for the foreseeable future with frequent storms from coast to coast.

A busy forecast ahead will start with a storm system bringing hazardous freezing rain and sleet from Wednesday evening to Thursday. Ice will accumulate (0.1-0.25+ inches) from WV/VA to NY. A few areas to the north will see initial and backside light snow into Friday. Another storm enters the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday with a similar mixed precipitation setup and a potential deva vu scenario.
