The two systems poised to visit the Midwest this week will bring snow but also a messy mix of rain/freezing rain. The first one arrives late Wednesday into Thursday AM with the second poised to arrive for the weekend.

The Atmospheric River continues through the end of this week. Initial focal points are from the Sierra extending north into Idaho and Wyoming. Periodic cold fronts Wednesday over the Sierra and Northern Rockies, and again Friday will bring better quality. Cold air for the Rockies hits later this week, with snow pushing south into northern Utah and Colorado.

An active pattern will continue across the West this week with storms favoring the Northwest, Sierra, and Northern Rockies. Temperatures will be warm from the Sierra to Central Rockies early in the week but will trend colder later in the week. The Great Lakes and New England will also see several storms, though mixed precipitation could sneak in at times.
