A favorable pattern will remain in place across the East with cold temperatures, and a storm will also bring widespread moderate snow to New England. A storm will move into the West over the weekend and into early next week with snow favoring the Northwest and the Rockies, though some parts of the Northwest will see predominantly rain with warmer air in place.

Thanks to snowmaking and lake effect snow, a wave of resorts will open later this week, which will mean dozens of choices for hitting the slopes this weekend.

A warm front with precipitation begins in the PNW later this week/weekend, followed by a cold front. Precipitation spreads to inland BC and south to both the WA and OR Cascades before heading into the Rockies. As far as chasing powder, there won't be an ideal chase due to rising snow levels. The Rockies offer colder temps with many opportunities to chase light or moderate snow totals.
