Pow returns to northern Utah, Colorado, Southern Wyoming and Idaho

Summary

The final piece of moisture that has pushed east from the low pressure spinning in Hudson Bay will impact the northern Rockies once again from Sunday to Tuesday. Chases are possible through Tuesday morning before high pressure temporarily takes grab at the west. Another system will impact Canada and the PNW late this week or next weekend.

Update

Short Update-

My final chase took me back to JHMR where another 10 inches fell Saturday PM to Sunday AM. Another deep day in the Tetons. An avalanche early this morning on Teton Pass re-closed the roadway around 7AM. The chase decision was a difficult choice with the Wasatch picking up 10-12 inches at upper elevations but who could pass up on a storm total in the Tetons of nearly 5 feet!

Very cold temps are entering the west Sunday with -25C noted below for Montana. Bundle up. Map is for Sunday morning.

The next 24 hours brings another push of .50-.75 inches of moisture aimed at the northern Wasatch range (Logan may see higher amounts-Beaver mountain). Chases Sunday might be deeper near Ogden (Snowbasin is favored with SW flow dominating). The Cottonwoods especially BCC could see a bit less especially on the 6AM report with moderate amounts by noon (6-10). Keep an eye on reports up north Sunday morning. Areas of Southern Idaho (Pocatello area mountains) and southern Wyoming may also score. Most of the Teton range sits too far north for any significant totals (2-4 is possible). Time to dig out!

Below: Total moisture for the west through Sunday late AM favoring the northern areas of Utah and snow falling over northern Colorado (Steamboat) extending south and west of Aspen (Powderhorn and CB wildcards).

Other spots to watch are northern Colorado with high end confidence of another 9-15 inches for Steamboat, Rabbit Ears Pass, and perhaps Rocky Mountain National Park from Sunday to Monday PM. Moisture will funnel into these areas on Sunday increasing by late AM into Sunday PM. Both Sunday and Monday will likely be powder days. NW flow behind the initial surge of moisture could kick in some surprise totals along I-70 especially Vail Pass or Beaver Creek (Westerly winds), Monday late AM to late PM (Tuesday could be a powder day as well). Winter Park and RMNP, and even Eldora could be decent late Monday and Tuesday.

Chases: Northern Utah, Southern Idaho, and northern Colorado for Sunday AM and midday.

Monday: Northern Colorado  extending a bit further south to the I-70 border (Northerly areas). Crested Butte, Powderhorn, and even Aspen are wildcard with some moisture extending south. . North of I-70 will likely be deeper. NW Flow takes over midday Monday or PM so areas not scoring by Sunday night will score Monday to Tuesday.

Late Monday to Tuesday: Wildcard of NW flow kicking in late Monday to Tuesday (Vail Pass, Snowmass) and the Front Range, especially WP.

High pressure takes hold on the Rockies midweek.

Another low pressure system moves into the PNW late this week and may drag some light snow over the Rockies by Friday or Saturday. Heavier snow is noted in the models for the PNW and western Canada perhaps as early as Saturday or Sunday.
