Snow Forecast

The past couple of days have been less than ideal for fresh snowfall. We've picked up anywhere from 1-3 inches along the corridor thanks to a less-than-ideal southwest wind direction and just not enough storm energy to overcome this wind direction.

But we will see a slightly better chance over the next 36 as two waves of snow deliver increasing better chances for snow on Monday and again during the second half of Tuesday.

This first wave on Monday will bring anywhere from a dusting to maybe 1-2 inches. I will be watching for a slight pop of heavier snow east of the divide on Monday afternoon so that will be something to watch.

The second wave on Tuesday will be much of the same during the morning and into the early afternoon. Look for light snow showers during this time ahead of rotation in the storm and a chance for heavier snow by late Tuesday afternoon and into the evening hours.

My final forecast on Friday called for 3-7 inches from Friday night through Tuesday and I think this final push during the second half of Tuesday will get us there. The one other positive for Tuesday will be cooler temps, which should help the atmosphere create fluffier flakes for very nice turns on Wednesday morning.

For the rest of the workweek, we'll receive mostly dry conditions on Wednesday, followed by sunny skies and milder temps on Thursday and into Friday.

Travel Forecast

Wet, icy, and snowy road surfaces will be the story on Monday and into Monday night. Heavier snow along and east of Eisenhower Tunnel will be possible during the second half of Monday so keep an eye out for slower travel speeds and potential travel impacts/

For Tuesday, it will be more of the same, with a slight chance for heavier snow and slower travel speeds on Tuesday afternoon and into Tuesday night. Expect icy and snow-packed road surfaces from Vail through Denver into early Wednesday morning.

Mostly dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds will follow for Wednesday, Thursday, and likely through Friday afternoon. I can't completely rule out a few snow showers and wet road surfaces on Wednesday but this should not impact travel speeds.

Snow will return and bring more wet, icy, and snow-packed road surfaces beginning Friday night and into Saturday (1/30). An extended period of icy and snowy road surfaces will follow beginning around February 2nd.

Extended Forecast

We don't have a lot of big updates to discuss in the extended forecast as we'll be watching for two chances for snow through early February. The first will arrive on Friday night and into Saturday, followed by an extended round of snow and cold beginning on Tuesday, February 2nd.

Neither looks overly promising for big totals but the low sun angle and cold temperatures will keep conditions soft and grippy. We just need a really healthy cycle (see California) to get to where we want to be.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for daily updates!
