Winter Returns Thursday

Summary

Three more days of warm and dry weather on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Winter-like system will then arrive on Thursday morning and into early Thursday afternoon. Light to moderate accumulations and slower travel speeds can be expected through Friday. Warm and dry next weekend, followed by one or two more storms during Thanksgiving week.

Short Term Forecast

The I-70 mountain corridor will have to sit through warm and dry weather on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before winter finally returns on Thursday. Mid-mountain temperatures will reach into the 40s each day but it should be cold enough each night for snowmaking operations along the mountain corridor.

Thursday will then be the day when winter-like temperatures and moderate accumulations move back into Colorado.

On Thursday morning and into early Thursday afternoon, we will likely see the strongest cold front of the season, which could bring a short period of whiteout driving conditions and snow-packed road surfaces. The snow forecast has trended up slightly over the weekend, with 3-6 inches possible along the corridor through Friday. We'll continue to make adjustments over the next few days.

Overall, expect a full return to winter on Thursday and Friday, with winter driving conditions and minor to major delays possible if accidents do occur.

Extended Forecast

Next weekend, November 19th and 20th, will then feature warm and dry conditions. Overnight lows should be perfect for snowmaking so expect a much different scene along the corridor by the end of next weekend.

Looking further ahead, after another dry next Monday, it looks like we could see another storm swing through the Western US before Thanksgiving and another during the weekend after. The finer details are still days away but it's great to see an active pattern setting up as we head into the second half of November!

That's all for today. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for daily updates on the approaching storm.
