All eyes on next week

Update

Friday featured mixed periods of light to very heavy snow. My forecast called for 1-6 inches so I feel pretty good about the sporadic timing of the snowfall and Saturday morning's reports.

  • Loveland: 7"
  • Vail: 3"
  • Arapahoe Basin: 2"
  • Breckenridge: 2"
  • Winter Park: 0.25"

Leftover clouds and a few lingering flakes will be possible for the first half of Saturday, especially along/east of the divide, but good periods of sunshine will also be in the forecast. There should still be soft turns to start the morning but the sun will quickly turn any leftover powder to mashed potatoes by late-morning. Mid-mountain highs will climb into the 30s by Saturday afternoon so dress in layers and don't forget sunscreen.

Clear skies on Saturday night will then lead into a beautiful day on Sunday. Expect sunny skies, mid-mountain temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s, and full-on corn skiing.

We should see a few clouds and gusty winds move in by Sunday evening but nothing in terms of precipitation. The first half of Monday should also stay mostly dry before chances for showers increase during the afternoon and evening. The snow machine will then look to provide a full return to winter from Tuesday through next Saturday, April 29th.

The latest precipitation forecast or QPF (the expected amount of melted precipitation) is very intriguing. Take the amounts on the left and multiple by 10 to estimate snowfall.

I can't say that all days will feature non-stop snow but we should be in for healthy accumulations at Abasin, Loveland, and Winter Park, especially late in the week. The high April sun angle will help clear road surfaces during the day but icy, slushy, and snow-packed road surfaces will be in the works for the overnight hours.

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend, and look for my next update on Monday morning!
