Snow & Tough Travel Tuesday through Saturday...

Update

**You should have chains if traveling over Sierra passes Tuesday through the weekend.**

Tuesday:

We are expecting a weaker/warmer storm to move in Tuesday.  The snow levels look to start above pass level Tuesday morning but could lower down to 7,000 feet Tuesday afternoon. We are only expecting light snow, but it could be enough for chain controls by Tuesday afternoon from Soda Springs to Donner Lake.

Wednesday:

Wednesday snow levels are expected to lower down to 6,500 feet.  We could see moderate snowfall over the pass with several inches of snow falling.  Expect chain controls from Soda Springs to Donner Lake, or maybe even down to Kingvale

Snow showers continue Wednesday night with snow levels lowering to 6,000 feet.  We could see chain controls lower below Kinvale and east into Truckee.

Thursday:

A stronger and colder storm will move in Thursday.  This storm has the potential to bring heavy snowfall and a drier snow that will more easily blow around.  We could see chain controls from Whitmore all the way to Northwest Reno

Expect tough travel along I-80 through Thursday evening.  The storm starts to wind down Thursday night, but the roads may not begin to clear until Friday.

Friday:

Expecting a break on Friday but we could see snow move back in with the next storm by later Friday night.  This storm could have snow levels down to 3,000-4,000 feet.  So we could see chain controls setup all the way down at Crystal Springs east into Reno later Friday night.

Saturday:

Saturday we should continue to see snowfall with chain controls from around Crystal Springs to Reno.  The snow is expected to taper off Saturday night, but chain controls could remain until Sunday morning with the snow packed roads.

Long-Range:

Expecting the weather pattern to become drier starting Sunday through the week of the 3rd.
