As of 6 AM Sunday morning we have chain controls in place from Nyack (exit 156) all the way to the NV state line.

Sunday Snow:

Bands of snow will continue to move through the region Sunday with some moderate-heavy bursts of snow possible at times and breaks at times as well. The snow showers become more scattered later in the day and end Sunday evening.

Snow levels hover around 4100-4600 ft. through the day on Sunday and then drop below 4000 ft. by the end Sunday evening. We are expecting slow travel and chain controls from Saturday evening into Sunday night.

Chain controls will likely continue from around Kingvale to the NV state line Sunday morning, and maybe shorten a bit into Sunday evening. But we could see snowy roads and chain controls into Sunday night until the roads clear Monday morning.

Be prepared for winter travel conditions, snowy and slick roads, slow travel, and chain controls through the Sierra into early Monday morning.

Monday - Friday:

We are expecting a drier pattern from Monday through at least Friday. No weather-related travel impacts are expected for the rest of the week. We'll let you know if that changes.

Next Weekend:

The forecast models are still split on the track of a cut-off low down the West Coast for Saturday into next Sunday the 12th. Some models keep us dry with the low tracking south well off the coast, while others track it closer to the coast with rain & snow reaching the Sierra next weekend. We'll continue to watch the trends all week.

Long-Range:

A more active pattern could continue through the 3rd week of February, and possibly into the last week of the month. We'll continue to watch the trends.
