Snow Showers Thursday, Stronger Storm Mon-Tue...

Summary

Weak systems look to continue through Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds along with scattered snow showers. A stronger storm moves through between Monday-Tuesday with snow showers possibly into Wednesday. The long-range models are trending drier by the 31st into the first weekend of April.

Update

Chain controls were in place over Donner Pass Thursday morning but the daytime heating is melting off the roads with chain controls likely to drop until the sun sets.

Thursday Snow Showers:

A weak system continues snow showers into Thursday night. It will continue to be hard to see the snow accumulate on the roads during the daytime hours. We could see light accumulations at night.

Watch for slick roads and possible chain controls over Donner Pass, especially at night. Snow levels fluctuate between 3000-5500 ft. from nighttime to daytime hours. Chain controls are possible at times from around Kingvale to Truckee overnight.

Weekend Snow Showers:

Weak systems could keep scattered snow showers around through the weekend, but very little with a mix of sun and clouds. It will continue to be hard to see any snow accumulate on the roads during the daytime hours. We could see light accumulations at night if any showers move through.

Watch for slick roads at night and carry chains just in case a heavier shower moves through setting up chain controls.

Monday - Wednesday Storm:

A stronger storm moves in as early as Monday afternoon with heavier snow possible into Tuesday. Snow showers could continue into Wednesday before clearing out by Thursday.

Be prepared for heavy snow, chain controls, and slow travel sometime Monday through Tuesday night. Snow levels will be fairly low so chain controls could extend from at least Blue Canyon to the NV state line at times.

Long-Range:

The latest long-range model runs are trending drier by the 31st through the 1st weekend of April. Then possibly a bit more active from the 3rd-7th. We'll continue to watch the trends and will let you know if that changes.
