Your Last Resort…Great Divide to Close out the 18/19 Montana Ski Season

EAST of the Continental Divide:

One last lift-served day awaits snow riders this Saturday (April 27th) over at Great Divide Ski Area just above Helena. The good news is that they’ll be open top to bottom on the Mt Belmont chair that offers a solid 1300 vert with some nice smooth corn snow conditions that have not been skied on in almost a week.  Lift tickets are 20$ in advance (via skigd.com) and $30 at the window. The weather looks favorable for a decent freeze (6am low on Saturday around 30) so the snow should set up for a very nice coating of corn by the time they start spinning their lifts at 10am. It will be a mostly sunny morning with quickly increasing clouds by the early afternoon with a high temp at 6500’ around 40. A few spitting snow showers are possible in the afternoon as well with even a very slight chance of a stray rumble of thunder. Get out there and support this truly great local mountain and rip up the corn one last time! Of course…those with skins have at least another month to play.

18/19 Season Summary and Latest Snowpack %'s :

It’s been one crazy El Nino year! From the warm December and January to a February that was one of the coldest months on record.  March and April brought us lots of little storms that consistently built up the snowpack. Overall, the snowpack ended up being slightly above average at most Montana areas/resorts with the exception being NW Montana where the snowpack was around 90% of average. Big Sky enjoyed one heck of a powdery year being the recipient of a strong NW flow all season long. Bridger also faired well along with Lost Trail and Red Lodge. I think every Montana snow rider has a few great stories from this season that they’ll keep fresh(ies) in their mind all summer long… Thanks for reading my posts and I’ll see ya’ in October for the pre-season forecast. Powder Out!
