Quiet this week, stormy next week

Summary

The storm track will stay locked in this week, with dry weather over the West and a storm for Sugarbush on Wednesday. The pattern will then shift with colder air and snow moving back into the West during the first weekend of February.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts over the past 5 days.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Jackson Hole: 28 inches

Big Sky: 20 inches

Snowbird: 16 inches

Alta: 15 inches

Aspen Highlands: 6 inches

This Week

Our weather will remain relatively quiet for most of the Collective destinations through Thursday, January 31st.

The one resort that will take the headlines this week will be Sugarbush, Vermont as a strong system slides through the Northeast on Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Look for 4-8+ inches for Sugarbush during this period and the best turns on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, we'll turn to Friday, February 1st and into the first weekend of February for cold temperatures and stormy conditions to return to the Western US and Canada.

California, along with Revelstoke and the SkiBig3 destinations, will be the locations to watch on Friday and into Saturday. If you're looking for deeper turns for the upcoming weekend, target Squaw Alpine and Mammoth.

Extended Forecast

Next Week

Searching ahead to the first week of February, confidence continues to rise for cold temperatures and another stormy pattern for much of the West.

Keep an eye on Jackson Hole for Sunday, February 3rd, followed by the Utah destinations and Aspen Snowmass for early next week. This pattern should see relatively active through the first half of February so if you missed out on deeper turns in January, there should be plenty more on the way!

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, February 4th.
