Mostly Sunny with a Quick Chance for Snow Showers

Summary

Mostly sunny conditions are expected throughout most of this week. A slight chance for snow showers exists Monday night into Tuesday and again Thursday night. Other than that Spring conditions will prevail with some gusty winds mixed in throughout the week. A generally dry pattern prevails through the end of March.

Short Term Forecast

Been a little while so figured I'd update everyone. As much as I don't like to admit it but Winter is definitely coming to a close across most of West. The jet stream is retreating further North and becoming weaker and now Astronomical Spring is upon us. Meteorological Spring hit us March 1st but not the calendar says it's Spring too as we're past the equinox. Sunny, warm, and drier conditions definitely prevail a lot of the time now.

Monday through Friday

I'll just sum up what's happening this week pretty quickly as there really isn't much excitement. Today (Monday) will be the sunniest and likely calmest day most of the week. The temps will be in the low 40's on the slopes and the winds will start to pick up later in the day.

Monday night into Tuesday we get a quick hit of snow showers over the mountains. Very limited accumulations are likely. Dusting to an inch across the entire region. The winds ramp up overnight and continue intoTuesday with gusts out of the West 40-50 MPH.

Tuesday Night into Wednesday we clear out but still stay very windy. Winds will now be out of the Northeast after the system to the North passes through. The sun returns and temps will stay cool in the low 40's and high 30's on the slopes.

Thursday clouds build in again as another very weak system comes in to our North. A very slight chance of snow showers exists Thursday night but once again not expecting more than a dusting or so. Winds pick up again ahead of this system Wednesday night into Thursday.

Friday we clear out again with temps staying close to the 40 degree mark around the 8k foot level.

Here's the total precip for the 5 day period...

Can hardly call that precip... but we'll take the cooler days and cloudy skies. So don't expect much in the way of fresh snow this week.

Extended Forecast

I don't think we'll be seeing much precipitation next week into the beginning of April. The ensemble means for both the GFS and Euro show hardly any precip making it this far South. So expect dry conditions to prevail through the end of March into the beginning of April. I know ski resorts will be shutting down sometime mid April but unfortunately that doesn't mean there will be much fresh snow between now and then...

Here's the GFS and Euro:

It's good we got all the snow we did the last few weeks because that will help us keep going into April. So enjoy the groomers!

Till the next one... Mike out.
