Update

Recap of Monday

Monday was sunny with temperatures on the hill in the mid-20s.

Tuesday

Clouds arrived early in the morning which helped to warm temperatures near the base (without cloud cover, base temperatures might have stayed around 0F). Expect readings in the 20s for most of the day with mostly cloudy skies (and maybe a snow shower) in the morning then lots of sunshine by midday and afternoon.

Wednesday and Wednesday night

We are still looking forward to a storm beginning around 12-2pm with snow continuing through Wednesday evening. This storm will be strong, which is good, but I am keeping my expectations in check because the storm will move through quickly, have limited moisture, and the days before the storm will be drier, meaning that the snow base will be a bit on the firm side. Total snowfall should be 3-6 inches, with storm skiing during the last runs on Wednesday (snowing, windy, low visibility, fresh snow on the mountain), and then clear skies and fresh soft snow underfoot on Thursday morning.

Thursday through the weekend

Thursday morning will offer fresh snow on the ground and clear and cold skies with temperatures starting in the single digits. Then we should see dry and at least partly sunny weather for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Next week (December 17-21)

I do not see anything in the models to suggest a significant storm. Maybe we’ll get lucky and something will sneak into Colorado, but odds are low.

After December 21st

This is when odds begin to increase for strong storms returning to Colorado. Also, the past two months have shown that we’re in a roughly 30-day cycle with stormier weather during the end of one month into the beginning of the next month, so it would make sense that the end of December would turn stormier. Let’s hope!

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
