Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Steamboat Daily Snow

Update

Tuesday offered great snow with 7 inches from Monday night. Then during the day on Tuesday, an unfavorable wind direction from the east kept the weather mostly dry.

The surprise on Tuesday was another burst of about 3 inches of snow that fell around sunset and through early evening. This burst of snow coincided with the wind switching to a favorable direction from the west.

Wednesday morning will start with soft snow and chilly temperatures in the teens. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies for most of the day with temperatures rising to the upper teens to low 20s.

Thursday should be mostly cloudy and mostly dry though I can’t rule out a brief shower. Temperatures will warm into the 30s. A storm will be approaching (hence the clouds) but its far distance from Colorado and an unfavorable wind from the south will keep most or all snow away from northern Colorado.

Friday will be a transition day. The day will start warm and dry, then around midday or afternoon a cold front will bring a burst of snow and temperatures will cool from the 30s into the 20s. Look for a few inches of snow by afternoon.

Saturday will offer the best chance for soft turns and fresh snow as a favorable wind from the west could bring 4-8+ inches from Friday night through Saturday evening. A wind from the west and temperatures around 5-10F at the mountaintop is a favorable combination for good snow, so I am watching this time period.

For the longer-range forecast covering the first 7-10 days of December, I have low confidence. There will be a few storms around the western United States though I do not know if or when these storms might head toward Colorado.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
