Steamboat Daily Snow

By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 5 years ago January 15, 2020
Update
Tuesday night’s storm delivered the high-side of the forecast at mid-mountain with 4 inches of accumulation. The summit snow stake did even better with 7 inches. This was more snow than I expected and we’ll take it!
Wednesday will be dry with high temperatures in the 20s. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week with a high temperature in the 30s.
On Thursday night, we might see a few showers, and then the best chance for steady snow will be during the day on Friday when the wind direction will switch to blow from a more favorable westerly direction. I am going to lower my forecast a bit to 4-8 inches based on many models showing low totals. The best time to enjoy new snow should be Friday midday through the afternoon. Something to keep in mind is that strong wind gusts of 40-60mph on Friday midday and afternoon may close or delay lifts. If this happens and some snow is not skied on Friday afternoon, then Saturday morning will offer fresh turns.
Looking ahead to the holiday weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be dry with temperatures in the 20s to low 30s.
Our next chance for snow will be from a weak-to-moderate strength storm around Wednesday to Thursday, January 22-23rd.
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
