On Monday, we saw a fast-moving snow squall push through in the morning with brief intense snow and wind gusts of 40-50mph. This squall dropped 1 inch of snow on the mountain, and we managed to squeak out another 1 inch of snow during the day.

On Monday night, the setup was reasonably favorable for additional snow, though cold temperatures (3°F at the summit) signaled to me that we had limited moisture in the air and therefore would see limited snowfall. The atmosphere had other ideas, though, and we saw a classic Steamboat Surprise with 10 inches of fluffy snow accumulating on the summit snow stake in just 4 hours on Monday night. Wow!

Now on Tuesday morning, you’ll want to get out on the mountain and enjoy this fluffy surprise! Dress warmly as temperatures will be a few degrees on either side of 0°F. For the rest of Tuesday and Tuesday night, we’ll see more snow showers, but this time I really do think that the moisture will be limited and that accumulations will be just a coating to an inch or two.

Wednesday should bring some breaks of sunshine in the morning and then perhaps more clouds by afternoon with a high temperature in the upper teens to low 20s.

Wednesday night through Thursday will bring more clouds and light snow showers as a weak storm moves across northern Colorado. Temperatures will again be in the teens to 20s.

Friday and Saturday will be the sunniest and warmest days of the next week with temperatures topping out in the upper 20s to 30s.

The next storm should bring a chance for snow between Sunday, March 1st through Wednesday, March 4th. This system is still too far away to figure out the timing of possible powder days, but I am reasonably confident that next week, like this week, will bring multiple days of snow. How lucky are we?!
