Steamboat Daily Snow
By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 4 years ago December 17, 2020
Friday fun day at Steamboat
Summary
On Wednesday we saw light snow through the day with 2 inches of accumulation. Thursday will be dry. Then we’ll see snow Thursday night through Friday with 3-6 inches and soft turns on Friday. Our next chance for snow will be around Wednesday, December 23rd.
Short Term Forecast
Wednesday was fun with soft turns thanks to consistent snowfall during the previous days and 2 inches of additional snow falling during the day. While big storms with big snow totals always get us excited, great snow conditions are usually the result of many days of consistent light-to-moderate accumulations.
Thursday will be a break in the action with temperatures warming into the 20s and some breaks of sunshine along with clouds filtering the sunshine.
The next storm will bring snow from Thursday night through Friday midday. The energy from this storm will be splitting as it moves into Colorado, but there will be enough energy to combine with decent moisture to bring us 3-6 inches of snow. It looks like there could be a band of more intense snow very early Friday morning with snow tapering to showers and flurries through the morning and midday. This means that the softest turns should be between the first chair and about midday.
Extended Forecast
From Friday night through Saturday night, lingering moisture and storm energy will bring clouds and snow showers and maybe light accumulations.
Then Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will be sunny, dry, and warmer days with high temperatures and in the 20s and 30s.
Our next chance for a storm will be around Wednesday, December 23rd. With each new forecast update, this storm looks weaker and weaker, so my expectations are for just light snow amounts.
We will then see drier weather between about December 24-29 before a stormier period could return starting around December 30th.
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
