On Thursday night, a weak storm dusted the summit of the mountain with an inch of fluffy flakes.

Following this weak system, today on Friday will be mostly sunny and with dry weather and temperatures in the 20s.

On Saturday, a storm will track south of Colorado and this will bring a wind from the east. A wind from the east is not favorable for snowfall, though we might see enough storm energy and moisture to bring at least some flakes and maybe light accumulations. Sometimes, a wind from the east can lead to fast wind gusts and affect lift and gondola operations, so keep an eye on this for later Saturday afternoon.

From Sunday through most of next week, we should see dry weather as the main storm track will stay to our north and east. If any system happens to track just a bit farther south, we could get clipped with a bit of snow and cool air, and there is a chance for this some time between January 14-17th. But overall, the odds are strongly favoring dry weather.

Then the week of January 18-24 could be a transition week with a chance for snow returning. It’s too soon to get excited about a specific day when we might see a storm, though it’s also unlikely that we would go through the entire week without the chance for snow.

The latest forecast models for the final week of January, from the 25-31st, all show a stormy pattern developing for the Rockies and the west. Could this be what we’re looking for to turn around our low-snow season? Yes, this is the pattern that could be amazing, but it’s still a 2-3+ week forecast, and the accuracy of these longer-range forecasts isn’t that great. So we’ll cross our fingers, wash our car, and do everything we can to summon the snow, and we’ll also hope that the models are correct.
