Steamboat Daily Snow
By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 3 years ago January 15, 2021
For Steamboat, some snow Saturday morning, more on Sunday night
Summary
Friday will be dry, then a few inches of snow will fall on Friday night into Saturday and this could produce a few soft turns on Saturday morning.
Short Term Forecast
Thursday was a dry day, yet the weather was still impactful with chilly temperatures in the single digits and teens as well as wind gusts to near 50mph at the summit.
On Friday, the weather will feel more comfortable with slower wind speeds and temperatures warming into the teens and low 20s.
From Friday at midnight through about Saturday at noon, a fast-moving storm will drop a few inches of snow with accumulations likely between 2-5 inches. Saturday's first chair could offer softer turns with new snow on top of groomers, and snow conditions could continue to become softer through Saturday midday.
From Saturday night through Sunday evening, we will see dry weather, maybe some sunshine, and temperatures will rise into the 20s on Sunday.
Our next chance for snow will be on Sunday night into Monday. This storm will dive far to the southwest of Colorado, but as it slides by, we should get lucky and see perhaps 2-5 inches of snow. Monday morning’s turns could be soft, especially on the groomers.
Extended Forecast
On Tuesday, the storm from Monday will have tracked far to the southwest of Colorado and we should see dry weather.
Then from Wednesday, January 20 through Monday, January 25, there will be a chance for snow every day, yet I have low confidence in the details of the forecast. It looks like the 24th and 25th have the best chance to bring steady and/or significant snow, though it’s really too soon to pinpoint which of these days could offer the best snow conditions. Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
