Snow Monday through Wednesday

Summary

A storm will cross Colorado on Monday and it will bring snow and soft conditions through the middle of the week.

Update

On Sunday morning we saw 3 inches of snow, then the rest of Sunday and Sunday night were dry.

Now on Monday, it's a complicated forecast as the next storm crosses Colorado.

As the system moves through Colorado, one storm center over northwestern Colorado will weaken and one storm center over eastern Colorado will strengthen. We will be in between these storm centers and that leads to a very uncertain forecast.

My best estimate is that Monday morning will bring drier weather or less snow, with a better chance for snow during Monday afternoon. Snow accumulations could be anything from 1 inch to 6+ inches depending on our luck and if a few snow squalls move over the mountain and/or if the wind direction becomes more favorable earlier in the day.

Then from Monday night through Wednesday midday, we will see a consistent flow of moisture and a wind from the west(ish). This should bring light-to-moderate snow on Monday night, Tuesday, Tuesday night, and likely through Wednesday midday. Most forecast models show 5-10 inches of snow during this time, but a west wind is favorable for Steamboat so there could be double this amount if the atmosphere is on our side.

Looking further ahead, Wednesday night and Thursday will be dry, we'll see some snow on Friday into Saturday morning, then our next chances for snow will be around Monday, January 9, and Wednesday, January 11.
