Continued cold, clear and dry this week

Summary

Continued cold and dry weather are forecast in Sun Valley through this weekend. High pressure is set up off the Pacific Coast, blocking any storms from moving into Central Idaho. No new snow is forecast for the next 5 days. That pattern is forecast to remain in place until next week.

Update

Temperature anomaly map shows Sun Valley staying cooler than normal, which is great for snow-making and retaining the snow base we have!

Nordic grooming crews have been hard at work getting the Wood River xc ski trails groomed up and ready for skate and classic skiing. A number of trails are now open for xc skiing between Sawtooth NRA and Galena Lodge.

Galena Lodge opens for the season on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Next week, forecast models are in somewhat of a disagreement about how High Pressure off the Pacific Coast will weaken and flatten and open the door for storms to move into the Northwest. But it's encouraging to see the cold and dry pattern change into chances for snow.

In Sun Valley, it appears that the cold and dry pattern may persist until close to Thanksgiving Day. We'll keep an eye on that.

Announcements

Once again, Sun Valley was ranked No. 1 by Ski magazine readers. For the third year in a row! The upshot of the survey was that skiers/riders like the diversity of food and unpretentious culture in Sun Valley, and Sun Valley's world-class snowmaking capabilities ensure they have solid snow cover regardless of natural snowfall.

Here's a new article about Sun Valley in Local Freshies that underscores what Ski mag readers like about skiing/riding Sun Valley.
