Heavy snow for the Northwest & Tahoe

Summary

A storm will bring heavy snow to the Northwest, Tahoe, and Idaho on Wednesday with additional snow expected across the Northwest on Thursday and Friday. The storm track will continue to favor the Northwest into early next week, while Colorado could score some snow from a weaker storm on Saturday.

Short Term Forecast

Pacific Northwest Storm Train

The pattern over the next 7+ days will result in new snow falling in the Cascades and BC Coast Range nearly every day. Check out the model forecast "plumes" for projected snow amounts at Mt. Baker through the morning of November 24th. The majority of these models are projecting snow amounts of 25-50 inches during this time frame.

Forecast for Wed, Nov 18 – Thu, Nov 19

A storm on Wednesday will favor British Columbia, the Cascades, Sierra Nevada, Tahoe, and Central/Western Idaho for the heaviest snow on Wednesday with additional snow lingering across the Northwest and Northern Rockies on Thursday.

Forecast for Fri, Nov 20 – Sat, Nov 21

Additional weaker systems will bring more snow to the Northern Cascades and British Columbia on Friday and Saturday while heavy snow will fall up north in Alaska. A weak storm moving across the Southern Rockies could also bring some snow to Colorado and Northern New Mexico on Saturday, though models are currently in poor agreement on how the situation will play out there.

Forecast for Sun, Nov 22 – Mon, Nov 23

The next storm will approach from the northwest early next week with snow arriving in Southern British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest on Sunday night and Monday.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue, Nov 24 – Sat, Nov 28

The storm track will continue to favor the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies during the week of (U.S.) Thanksgiving with a stronger storm possible across this area on the 25th or 26th. The Northeast could also see a quick-moving storm bring a shot of snow around the 25th.

Thanks so much for reading, and check back for my next post on Friday, November 20th.
