Frequent storms over the next 10 days

Summary

An active pattern is expected across most of North America over the next 10 days with frequent storms for both the West and the East. The Cascades and the Rockies will see the deepest snow totals over the upcoming week from Monday through Saturday. The Northeast will see heavy snow at times, but many areas in this region will also see snow changing to ice or rain during the next two storms.

Short Term Forecast

Western U.S. is in the Flow

Most ski regions in the Western U.S. have received good snow over President's Day weekend and the storm train will continue during the upcoming week as well. This was the scene at Snowbird, Utah where 31 inches of snow had fallen in 48 hours as of Sunday evening.

Forecast for Mon, Feb 15 – Wed, Feb 17

The first half of the week will be active from coast to coast. In the West, a strong storm will bring heavy snow to the Cascades and the Rockies on Monday and Tuesday with lighter snow extending into the Sierras and north into the BC Coast Range.

The Northeast will also experience a powerful storm on Monday and Tuesday with heavy snow expected, though many areas outside of Northern New England will see a change-over to freezing rain and/or rain.

Wednesday will be relatively quiet aside from light snow showers continuing across the Cascades and the Rockies in an unsettled northwest flow pattern.

Forecast for Thu, Feb 18 – Fri, Feb 19

The West will see another good storm on Thursday and Friday with heavy snow for the Northwest and the Rockies. A storm will also impact the East on Thursday and Friday with heavy snow possible for many areas, but similar to the early week storm, there will be precipitation type issues with snow changing over to freezing rain and/or rain in many areas.

Forecast for Sat, Feb 20

There are no breaks in sight for the West as another storm arrives on Saturday, favoring the Northwest in particular while snow will also spread into the Northern Rockies.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Sun, Feb 21 – Thu, Feb 25

An active pattern will remain in place across North America next week with the storm track in the West favoring the Northwest and Northern Rockies. The East will continue to see frequent storms as well with Northern New England being favored for the best snow potential.

Thanks so much for reading! Check back for my next post on Wednesday, February 17th.
